RicksStatueby Texas Dept. of Agriculture News – Recognizing that Texas-grown food and beverages are big on flavor, sharp on taste and good for the state economy, Agriculture Commissioner Todd Staples is encouraging Texas diners to mark their calendars to eat out during the seventh annual GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, presented by Farm Credit. The weeklong, statewide dine-out event will take place July 21-27. By dining out this week, you will show your support for Texas farmers and ranchers, while enjoying the finest locally-produced food and beverages. Across the Lone Star State, nearly 400 GO TEXAN restaurants will participate in Restaurant Round-Up.

McKinney GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-up participants include Rick’s Chophouse and Cadillac Pizza Pub.

“When you dine out, make sure the restaurant is GO TEXAN certified and serves fresh food straight from a Texas farm or ranch,” RicksExteriorCommissioner Staples said. “The GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up brings together the best offerings of Texas produce, meats, cheeses and beverages through the creativity of our local chefs. By dining out during Restaurant Round-Up, consumers give back to our economy and help contribute to area food banks.”

Participating restaurants will highlight special meal options made with ingredients such as beef, poultry, pork, seafood and produce grown and raised in Texas. Many restaurants will pair these meals with the best of Texas wines, beer and other beverages made right here in the Lone Star State.

GO TEXAN suggested special feature at Rick’s Chophouse includes a field greens salad with roasted grapes, marinated feta, spiced pecans and Texas Olive Ranch balsamic vinaigrette, followed by an entree of Comanche buffalo tenderloin with red quinoa succotash and ancho chili sauce.

CaddyPubExteriorSignCadillac Pizza Pub will feature a GO TEXAN R&D Pizza showcasing local Texas sausage from Hamm’s Meat Market and smoked gouda from Local Yocal Farm to Market.

Along with supporting Texas farmers and ranchers, when you dine out during the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up, you also will help feed hungry Texans. Participating Round-Up restaurants have pledged to donate nearly $40,000 to local food banks. That money will allow Texas food banks to provide more than 360,000 meals for hungry Texans. Now that’s eating out for a good cause.

“The Texas Food Bank Network thanks all of the restaurants participating in the GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up for their support of our efforts to feed the hungry,” said Celia Cole, CEO of the Texas Food Bank Network. “Over one-in-four children—1.9 million children—in Texas are at risk of hunger, threatening their ability to grow into healthy and productive adults. Our 21 member food banks distributed enough food last year to provide over 280 million meals and serve over three million needy Texans. Support from local businesses like the GO TEXAN restaurants helps us nourish needy Texans in every community across the state.”

Farm Credit Bank of Texas has generously sponsored the statewide dine-out event since its inception seven years ago.

“The GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up is a great way to highlight the connection between the agriculture industry and the GOTEXANlogoconsumer,” said Stan Ray, chief administrative officer for Farm Credit Bank of Texas. “As a lender to the agriculture industry, we’re proud to be part of an event that supports the hard-working farmers and ranchers we serve, while supporting local economies and food banks throughout the state.”

“We have been using local Texas products on our menu since the opening of Grace five years ago,” said Blaine Staniford, executive chef at Grace restaurant in Fort Worth. “I’m proud to be a part of an organization that supports our local artisans and gives back to the community. We at Grace look forward to participating in GO TEXAN Restaurant Round-Up every year.”

Several participating sponsors have donated exciting prizes for the general public, including bed and breakfast stays, gift certificates for wine, restaurants and gift boxes.
